ROUND ROCK – The Hutto Lady Hippos rolled to a 15-5 victory over the Round Rock Westwood Warriors on Thursday, April 2, extending their dominance in district play.
The win marked Hutto’s 11th consecutive district victory as the Lady Hippos improved to 11-1 in district competition and 22-9-2 overall.
Sophomore shortstop Kaelyn Price continued her standout season, going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Price delivered the biggest blow of the night in the second inning, launching a grand slam that broke the game open.
Hutto jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning on an RBI single from Kenna Spence and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 advantage. Westwood answered in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a passed third strike to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Lady Hippos responded emphatically in the second inning, erupting for six runs to take control of the game. Price’s grand slam highlighted the surge, giving Hutto a 6-1 lead. M’Kayla Hicks and Keyouna Harris followed with RBI singles later in the inning to extend the lead to 8-1.
Westwood added a run in the bottom of the second on a groundout, but Hutto continued to build its cushion in the third inning.
The Lady Hippos plated five runs in the frame to push the lead to 13-2. Spence delivered an RBI double, while Harris cleared the bases with a triple to highlight the inning. Hutto added two more runs on an error and a sacrifice fly to cap the rally.
The Lady Hippos tacked on two additional runs later in the game, including a solo home run from Spence, to seal the 15-5 victory.
In the circle, Bailey Kelley earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing two runs on one hit while striking out four. Molly Krieg provided relief, giving up three runs on seven hits and recording two strikeouts.
Hutto continued its strong stretch of play as it faced Manor on Tuesday and will return to action on the road against Cedar Ridge at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 10.
