LEXINGTON – The Thrall Tigerettes varsity softball team suffered its first district loss of the season, falling 10-2 to the Lexington Eagles on Tuesday, April 7.
The defeat snapped a 15-game winning streak for Thrall, as the Tigerettes’ offense was held to its lowest output in nearly two months.
Senior pitcher Miley Pokorny took the loss, pitching six innings while allowing 10 runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Thrall came out strong early, looking poised to continue its district dominance. Selena Quintanilla opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first inning to give the Tigerettes a 1-0 lead. Pokorny followed with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half to maintain the early advantage. Lexington responded in the second inning, tying the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly. The Tigerettes answered in the third, as Kenzie Engelke launched a solo home run to put Thrall back on top, 2-1.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth inning before momentum shifted in the fifth. Lexington took advantage of opportunities, scoring three runs on a single, an error and a two-RBI single to take a 4-2 lead.
The Eagles broke the game open in the sixth inning, adding six runs to extend their lead. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam that pushed the score to 10-2 and put the game out of reach.
With the loss, Thrall dropped to 19-8 overall and 8-1 in district play. Lexington now holds the tiebreaker in the district standings.
The Tigerettes closed out the series against Lexington on Friday and will return to action Tuesday, April 14, when they host Rockdale at 6 p.m. at Thrall High School.
