ERCOT calls for voluntary power conservation

ERCOT asks Texans to conserve power Thursday, Aug. 17 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) asks Texans to voluntarily reduce energy use if safe to do so from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.

The request is due to extreme temperatures, forecasted record demand and lower reserves due to low wind-power generation.

ERCOT says it is not currently in emergency operations at this time.

Energy-saving tips include raising the thermostat by a couple of degrees, turning off non-essential lights and refraining from using large appliances like a washer or dryer.

Last week, ERCOT extended a Weather Watch through August 18 due to forecasted higher temperatures, higher demand, and the potential for lower reserves.
