Taylor XC has last run at regionals

HUNTSVILLE — The Taylor High School varsity cross country program competed for the last time during the 2023 season Oct. 24 at the 4A Region 3 championship meet held on the campus of Sam Houston State University at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park.

The Ducks, who qualified as a boys team at the previous 4A-District 22 meet Oct. 12 at Camp Tejas in Giddings, had seven runners compete Tuesday in the 5,000-meter run in a large field of 180 entries. Taylor senior Emilio Arenas concluded his great career with Ducks cross country in 37th place with a time of 17:48.00, senior Brandon Aguilar placed 89th with a mark of 19:13.78, junior Joel Lopez placed 110th with a time of 20:04.77, senior Giovanni Aguilar came in 115th with a mark of 20:13.63, sophomore Antonio Estrada placed 123rd with a time of 20:32.57, senior Matthew Pachicano came in 126th place with a mark of 20:45.66 and senior Andrew Cortez placed 149th with a time of 21:38.51.

As for the lone Lady Ducks runner who competed in a field of 166 entries in the girls’ two-mile run, junior Zari Thompson placed 67th with a mark of 14:27.03. Thompson will now transition to winter sports as she is set to compete for the Lady Patos varsity soccer team.
