Coupland Civic Organization to meet

All Coupland residents are invited to the September Coupland Civic Organization supper and meeting on Monday, Sept. 30, in the fellowship hall of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland, 108 Wathen St. Coupland School Superintendent Earl Parcell will speak.

Come at 6:30 p.m. to see friends and neighbors and get a free chickenspaghetti supper. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

The annual Choo Choo Fest is Sunday, Oct. 20, at St. Peter’s Church. A barbecue dinner will be prepared by Coupland’s master chef Peter Wabbel and will include sausage, pork loin and chicken drumsticks. Serving will begin at 11:15 a.m. and continue until the food runs out. CCO members will provide homemade sides of potato salad, coleslaw and beans. Desserts will be available from one of the bake sales.

Merchandise will be for sale, including the collectible Caboose T-shirts.

Enjoy free rides around Coupland on the Kiddie Express train from noon to 2 p.m. Also during the same time, the popular and free Homestead Petting Zoo will return.

The CCO, a nonprofit organization, depends on Choo Choo Fest, its biggest fundraiser, to provide money to maintain the historic Depot and caboose.

Halloween Trunk or Treat will be Sunday evening, Oct. 27, in front of St. Peter’s Church.

Residents will dress in costumes and hand out treats from their decorated vehicles.

Coupland School On Sept. 19, Coupland School played its first football game of the season at home against St. Paul’s of Thorndale.

Assistant Principal Kate Knapek said, “Cowboys won in overtime.”

Also on Sept. 19, Coupland played its first volleyball game at home versus Thorndale’s St.

Paul Lutheran Church and School of Thorndale.

“There was a great crowd for our volleyball game,” Knapek said.

“Thanks (to) everyone who came out to support our team.”

The cross-country meet at the Dale Keen Invitational was Sept. 21 in Cameron.

On Sept. 24, the PTA hosted a free movie night with popcorn for current and new members.

“Members brought their own chairs, snacks and drinks, and had a fun time,” Knapek said.

Cultural Night was held Sept. 26.

Homecoming is Oct. 10, and Literacy Night is Oct. 24.

Tessa Strider said, “On Oct. 19, Coupland (Independent School District) is bringing back the Harvest Festival. We are very excited about the opportunity to bring the community together.

This is our PTA’s biggest fundraiser of the year and will help fund things like field trips, teacherappreciation events, classroom items and so much more.”

She added, “We will have carnival-style games and activities, concession foods, a vendor market, raffle and silent and live auctions.

Please come join us to support our students and teachers, and have some fun.”

The school serves prekindergarten to eighth grade.

St. Peter’s Church of Coupland

St. Peter’s Church of Coupland is holding a garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 28, 108 Wathen St.

On the last Sunday of the month, the congregation enjoys lunch at the church or a local restaurant. On Sunday, Sept.

29, the meal will be prepared by Coupland’s master chef, Peter Wabbel —pork cordon bleu, spaetzle, red cabbage and salad — for a minimum donation of $15.

St. Peter’s Church is searching for an interim pastor. On Sunday, Sept.

22, the guest pastor was the Rev. Phil Hirsch.

St. Peter’s is offering rides to church.

The ladies group hosts the St. Peter’s Community Senior Luncheons on the third Tuesday of every other month. The next luncheon is 11:30 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 15. The meals are free, but donations are accepted. Bingo players are asked to bring a bingo prize worth $10. Attendees enjoyed seeing the Coupland School students who helped at the luncheons.

Community Play Days are being held at St.

Peter’s playground. The playground is open daily from dawn to dusk, with equipment for children ages 2 to 12. There is a covered sports court with basketball hoops and balls, and a moveable pickleball net.

Everyone is welcome to Coffee Connections 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday in the conference room.

New Sweden Church New Sweden Church members took a day trip to the Round Top Festival Concert Hall, on Friday, Sept. 20, and will go to the Texas State Capitol on Monday, Oct. 21.

A potluck dinner is Oct. 27 after the service.

The church is at 12809 New Sweden Church Road.

The Rev. Hans Lillejord holds Bible study at 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.

Sermons by Lillejord are on the New Sweden website, newswedenelca.org.

Ladies Bible Study is in the evening Oct. 3.

Game nights are 7-10 p.m. Thursday in the parish hall and feature card games, pingpong and more.

The Worship and Music Committee meets 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 3.

Members select the music for Sunday and help plan worship activities for special events.

Type Church

Type Church is east of Coupland at 1200 CR 466 and holds Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m.

Type Church members recently visited Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum in Kentucky.

Coupland Volunteer Fire Department, ESD No. 10 Maranda Cummings, administrative support for Emergency Services District No. 10, said the department is hiring its first part-time day crews.

“We are recruiting certified part-time firefighters for 12-hour daytime shifts Monday through Friday with three personnel per crew,” she said.
