THRALL — The Thrall Tigerettes varsity softball team secured a 5-1 victory over the Giddings Buffaloes in its home opener on Monday, Feb. 10.
Junior Riley Luton led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Freshman Selena Quintanilla also contributed, finishing 2-for-4 with two hits.
Thrall struck first, plating a run in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. Giddings responded in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1, but the Tigerettes quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, going up 2-1.
They extended their advantage with two more runs in the third before adding another in the fifth, finishing with seven hits.
Junior pitcher Miley Pokorny dominated on the mound, throwing a complete game. She allowed just five hits and held Giddings scoreless over the final six innings.
With the win, the Tigerettes improved to 1-1 overall. They will be back in action against Lovejoy on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m.
