Drug toxicity ruled in man’s death

A 39-year-old man found dead outside an apartment complex last month died from drug toxicity, according to an autopsy.

Trenton Delayne McCormick’s death has been ruled accidental and the case is closed, Taylor police said.

The examination and toxicology screen were conducted by Hill Country Forensics after McCormick’s lifeless body was discovered about 2:40 a.m. March 28 on the grounds of the Stepping Stones Apartment complex, 2501 Davis St.

Taylor detectives, the Williamson County Crime Scene Unit and the Williamson County Precinct 3 death investigator participated in the probe, officials said.

Though McCormick’s body showed signs of “external trauma,” it was superficial and did not contribute to his death, investigators said.

According to an online obituary, McCormick, a Hutto resident, was born May 16, 1985, in Taylor, raised in Taylor, attended Taylor schools and graduated from Thrall High School in May 2004.

A Providence Funeral Home of Taylor post notes McCormick showed “amazing athletic ability as an outstanding wide receiver beginning with Taylor Pop Warner, then Taylor and Thrall high schools.”

Relatives said in the post he possessed “a heart of gold. Trenton’s love for family was paramount. His love for his darling children was known by all.

They were his world, his heart and his soul.”
