Early voting is over for primary county elections, and 8.36% of Williamson County registered voters made it to the polls. A total of 33,469 ballots were cast during early voting, Feb.

Candidates withdraw from elections
Local elections are set for May 7 but will have fewer candidates than expected. Taylor was set to have two contested races, one for City Council and one for the Taylor ISD Board of Trustees.

Living BLACK HISTORY
Residents learned last Wednesday about how their youth learn about Black history and their potential future from an influential instructional aide at Taylor High School. “I want to see us grow,” said Eliza Ackerman.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Buffalo soldiers were African American soldiers who mainly served on the Western frontier following the American Civil War. In 1866, six all-Black cavalry and infantry regiments were created after Congress passed the Army Organization Act.

Taylor alum gets promotion
In November of 2021, Steven Thomas was named Divisional Assistant Vice President of Business Development at Summit, a Great American Insurance Company, Southwest Regional office. Summit, a monoline workers compensation insurance company with over $600 million of in force premium, provides coverage to businesses throughout 14 states in the US.

Trades Day needs your help
Some of the fun things that happen at the Chamber’s Trades Day Career Fair are the mock interviews that give students an opportunity to gain a feel of what it feels like in the interview chair. “Back in 2020, our interviewers had such a good time visiting with students and giving them interview tips,” Chamber President Tia Rae Stone said.

Ambassador program gears up
The Chamber is looking forward to getting started on its new Ambassador program in the coming months. The Ambassadors have always been the heart and soul of the Chamber and its work but the combination of the pandemic and a loss of focus has hurt the group over the last two years.

Taylor crime down as whole, up in ways
Taylor had an interesting 2021 in crime statistics. “Although there are certain crimes that did increase,” said Chief Henry Fluck, Taylor Police Department, “overall we had a significant decrease,” Fluck reviewed last year’s crime and police activity during the Taylor City Council meeting Thursday, Feb.

Students heads to state
Local students are taking their mental talent to a Texas-sized contest. The Taylor High School Academic Decathlon team is heading to state competition in San Antonio for the 18th consecutive year of representing Taylor at the state level.
