Preserving the cultural fabric of a place
Here we are in January. We’ve experienced Januarys before and there’s more to come. But after the last 18 months as our lives were turned upside down, I do hope this January will begin something different. COVID forced us to curtail our lives. Trips to visit the places or people we love were cancelled. Our homes became remote offices. Going to the office was remembered as B.C. – Before COVID. Now the world is slowly opening, and we are rediscovering places around us. I want to reflect on the role that place plays in our lives.

Mayor elected CAPCOG executive committee chair
Taylor Mayor Brandt Rydell is the new Chair of the Executive Committee for the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG). “It is an honor to have been elected by my fellow city and county leaders across the Austin metropolitan area to serve in this role,” Rydell said.

Taylor schools tackle staff shortage
The wheels on the bus still go round and round at Taylor ISD, but today your school bus driver may be the director of transportation, and your teacher might be Superintendent Devin Padavil himself. Keeping Taylor ISD classrooms open in the face of teacher and staff shortages takes an all-hands-on-deck approach with everybody pitching in, according to Padavil.
