City hires new company for debris removal
The city is on the hook for up to an estimated $1.4 million in unplanned expenses this year to deal with removing and processing all the branches and limbs from the ice storm, officials said. “We are entering into an agreement that should be mobilizing within 24 hours, with a minimum of five crews with grapplers and trucks picking up, and there is more if we need it,” said City Manager Brian LaBorde at the February 9th City Council meeting. 02/15/2023 07:18 AM

Courtesy graphic: Hutto Independent School District HUTTO – Ensuring that students who break the same rules receive the same consequence, no matter which school they attend, their economic status or their ethnicity, is a challenge Hutto Independent School District staff is addressing. Kyle Ruggirello, assistant director of student affairs, told the Hutto ISD board of trustees at a recent meeting that the district is working to adopt changes which “address the disparities between student demographic groups and decrease the rate of student discipline referrals.” The District Improvement Plan lists this initiative as a goal to be accomplished by spring 2024. 02/15/2023 07:18 AM

Sweet surprises
In spring of 2022, Old Taylor High proprietors Kaitlin and Cliff Olle launched the Chemistry Lab Nitrogen Ice Cream in Room 120 of the 1922 building, featuring dense and creamy ice cream made in 30 seconds flat thanks to the negative 321-degree magic of liquid nitrogen. This year, the Chemistry Lab, now called Big O’s Classic Candy and Nitrogen Ice Cream, still offers the same variety of regular and vegan ice creams, but there are some new elements too. 02/11/2023 06:31 AM
